So on to the third of these itty bitty expressive figure paintings. I got the inspiration for these figures from a pack of vintage photos I bought on Etsy. And I am starting to think, that might be one of the best ways to do it:)

wip: expressive figures pt 1

So, I know I said I was ready to begin painting that one painting, you know the one, again. Truth is, I don’t know if I ever will be.

I started out thinking I would challenge myself to paint is as photo realistially as possible.

But, I can’t stand painting photo realistically.

The few times I have tried, I nearly pulled my hair out. And this is no exception. I think I may re-paint that dreaded painting it a way I am more comfortable with. But that will have to wait.

Here is a little painting I did while avoiding work on the big bad one. I did a few of these, so I will be sharing them over the next few weeks.

So, here is the first.

It was such a relief painting so loosely. I get so wound up painting the “other way”.  But at least I have learned my limits.

wip: painting for fun

As you may remember, I was working on a rather large painting and getting very very very very frustrated. So I took a break. I still wanted to paint, just not that painting.

This is what I have finished/ begun since.

Remember this one? Here it is.

And just for fun, I started this. It is all of 5 by 5 inches and there is no pressure.

Hello Everyone! It’s Friday! And I love it!

But at the same time, it is one day closer to Monday. And I am going back to Starbucks on Monday. Oh! NO! A “Real Job”! AHHHHHHHHH! And while I know I will do fine, I know the job (I worked there for 4 years after all), I am nervous of the time squeeze it will put on everything else…. I will just have to figure it out huh:)

Let’s just look forward to the weekend. This Saturday, I am meeting some of my fellow New Mexy Etsy Team members. That ought to be exciting! I will post more info about the Team and photos of our meet next week…

So on to paintings… I have finished some and nearly finished some. And here they are.

I am calling this one finished, even though I still need to sigh it. I painted over the carved wood, you can see it here, with more transparent layers of paint that look really neat in person.

This one is almost finished. I am going to darken some of the darks and lighten some of the highlights to make it *pop*.  Otherwise, il est fini!

And finally, this one needs just a few touches here and there, but then I am going to leave it alone.

I did it. I didn’t slack. I finished it ALL.

Last Thursday, I sat down and plowed through the last 5 blank pages in my Sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project. See?

And guess what else? I already shipped it.

Mmmm. Tea.

I love tea. Especially when it is steamy, spicy and orangey. There is nothing like it when it is both cold AND windy outside. I can’t stand wind. I take it as a personal affront when it sneaks up on me and musses my hair.

But that is neither here nor there. What I am really here to share are a few more pages from my Sketchbook Project. Hopefully I will finish it today, or maybe in my laziness I will *forget* to do the last few pages. Oh, come on. I doubt I am the only person doing the project to think that.

Here are the lovebirds I keep on doing. What a sweet motif.
